France is a country located in Western Europe. It is bordered by Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, and Spain. The Mediterranean Sea lies to the south of France, and on the west France has a long Atlantic Ocean coastline. To the North of France the English Channel separates the country from the United Kingdom. For over twenty years, France has been the world’s most popular tourist destination. It is geographically one of the most diverse countries in Europe, with prosperous and well-tended countryside. There are dozens of major tourist attractions, such as Paris, the French Riviera, the Atlantic beaches, the ski resorts of the French Alps, the castles of the Loire Valley and the vineyards of Bordeaux.

Business Information

French companies maintain key positions in the worldwide insurance and banking industries. One example of this is AXA, the world’s largest insurance company who is ranked by Fortune as the ninth richest corporation by revenues. Leading French banks include BNP Paribas and the Crédit Agricole. Shared offices can be found throughout France. France’s agricultural exports include wheat, poultry, dairy, beef, and pork. Champagne and wine are also major exports.

Entertainment And Dining Out

Throughout France, sightseeing can be iconic: think the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, or the famous smile of Mona Lisa. Imagine drinking coffee at a Paris café, or walking through the doors of a village patisserie to order croissants. From the aromas wafting from that village bakery, to the Michelin starred gourmet restaurants, France has an almost unparalleled world reputation for its food. There are many regional and national specialties that will tempt your palate, including Bouillabaisse, a fish stew that usually has at least three – but often far more – types of fish and shellfish. Another is Cassoulet, a rich haricot bean casserole, often slow-cooked with various meats including duck, goose and pork sausages. For dessert, a Soufflé au Grand Marnier is a light and fluffy way to end the meal.

Transport Information

The main international airport, Roissy - Charles de Gaulle, is likely to be your port of entry if you fly into France from outside Europe. Charles de Gaulle is the home of Air France, the national company for most intercontinental flights. The French rail company, SNCF, provides direct service from most European countries providing regular, reliable trains.
