Often informally called Mantes, this town is situated in the Île-de-France region in north-central France. It is located in the western suburbs of Paris just 30 miles from the center. Located in the town is the fine Gothic church of Notre-Dame in Mantes-la-Jolie. Built from the 12th to 14th century, it has similarities with Notre-Dame in Paris. There are doorways with sculptural decoration and a beautiful interior.

Mantes-la-Jolie is home to many small businesses that work in concrete and chemical processing. The Paris–Rouen rail line separates Mantes-la-Ville from the larger commune of Mantes-la-Jolie. Mantes-La-Jolie is a hub in the French transport network with three train stations, Mantes-La-Jolie, Mantes and Limay, that enable travelers to reach the region. These stations also provide easy connections to other means of road transportation. Autoroute de Normandie is a major route that connects Mantes-La-Jolie with major cities in Nortehrn France such as Paris.
