Officially the State of Qatar, this Arab nation is located in Western Asia. The capital and largest city of Qatar is Doha. Qatar is situated on the Arabian Peninsula. It has a land border with Saudi Arabia, and is surrounded by the Persian Gulf. Qatar is separated from Bahrain by a Persian Gulf strait.

Business Information

Qatar’s economy is almost exclusively based on the oil and natural gas industry. There is the Qatar Science & Technology Park in the country. This business park was designed to attract and support technology-based companies in Qatar. Qatar also boasts Education City, a site that consists of several international colleges. The Doha Sports City consists of Khalifa stadium, the Aspire Sports Academy, aquatic centres, exhibition centres, and many other sports related buildings and centres. There are many locations throughout Qatar for serviced offices.

Entertainment And Dining Out

There are many great things to see in Qatar. The traditional old market, Souq Waqif offers great restaurants and fabulous bargains. The Pearl is a man-made island connected to Doha by a bridge. This island also offers a large variety of high-end restaurants and shops. Mathaf is the Arab museum of modern art, and Katara features a cultural village that is home to a beautiful beach, a wide selection of restaurants, and many cultural options. Cuisine in Qatar centres on locally caught fish and the traditional Gulf menu of rice, lamb, and mezze (humus, chopped salads, and other appetisers). There are also many Indian, Chinese, and Thai restaurants.

Transport Information

Qatar’s main airport is the Doha International Airport. Most transportation is done by road, mainly due to inexpensive petroleum in the country. This would include buses, taxes, and limousines. The Saudi Arabian Public Transport Company runs daily international bus services from Doha to Dammam, with onward connections running to Amman, Damascus, Abu Dhabi and Dubai amongst other cities. Within Qatar, the country’s public transport company, Mowasalat, runs services between Doha and other cities including Al Khor and Al Shamal. The Greater Doha bus network operates across the entire capital city. Taxis are also one of the easiest ways to travel around Doha.
