San Sebastian, otherwise known as Donostia, is a city and municipality located in the north of Spain, in the Basque Country. It is situated on the Bay of Biscay, only 20 km (12 miles) from the French border. It is known for its gourmet Pinxto tapas selections, crescent moon beach and Castillo de Santa Cruz de la Mota.

Entertainment And Dining Out

There is a four-mile oceanfront promenade along the city’s three sandy beaches that is the perfect spot for an evening stroll. You can follow the promenade from the port around Mount Urgull, and visit one of the cities many museums. There are also sporting activities available with surfboards and sea kayaks for hire. San Sebastian is a gastronomic mecca with many people visiting for the Pintxos alone, so eat at as many different establishments as possible. For a full meal Ni Neu is a restaurant at the Kursaal, the auditorium and convention centre situated in a pair of glowing modernist cubes next to Zurriola beach. Dishes include tuna tartar with green lemon cream, or roast lamb with coffee and cardamom.

Transport Information

The nearest major international airports to San Sebastian are Bilbao and Santander. There is a vehicle-ferry terminal at Santander with connections to the UK. You can get around the town by walking or by hiring a bike. There are also taxis available. San Sebastian is well connected in terms of trains with onwards destinations available to towns in France and Spain.
