The town of Hatfield is located in the borough of Welwyn Hatfield, in the county of Hertfordshire. The Marquess of Salisbury resided in the gorgeous Hatfield House, which was the main building that the entire town was built around. The Havilland Aircraft Factory was opened here in 1930, boosting the local economy tremendously. More than 4000 people were employed by this single business, which went on to become the largest employer in the region. Hatfield was also home to British Aerospace, with numerous aircraft being designed and manufactured here. Although the factory has been shut down, the area has multiple reminders of its avionic past. The famous hit movie Saving Private Ryan was shot at the closed Hatfield airfield, as was the popular TV series Band of Brothers.

Business Information

Several large companies have their executive suites in the area. Ocado, the leading British internet retailer, has their head office in the vicinity. T-Mobile also has their head office here. The retail shopping in the area is still extensive for a town of this size. Numerous fashion houses, toy stores, book shops and beauty salons are present at the primary shopping location – The Galleria.

The nine screen cinema in Hatfield is a place that will keep you entertained with great movies during the day or in the evening. The Airfield, Harrier Pub and Bar 12 are the top rated pubs in the area, providing night-time entertainment in a lively atmosphere. There is no shortage of quality restaurants in Hatfield, making it a location where you can enjoy a range of great cuisine. The Candlestick Pub serves authentic English food, whereas Taste of India has superb Indian food on the menu.

Transport Information

Hatfield Station is the primary railhead in the area, with regular services to London’s Kings Cross. The East Coast railway line also runs through the area, providing connectivity to several locations between London and York. Luton and Stansted Airports are the closest to Hatfield, while London Heathrow can also be reached by bus within an hour.
